The SHU Twin Residence Halls, completed at the end of 2019, honor two social justice champions, Elie Wiesel and Pier Giorgio Frassati. Wiesel was a Holocaust survivor, teacher, author and activist, and Frassati was a devout Catholic who dedicated his life to social justice. The buildings were designed to honor these men by playing a significant role in students’ development. David Coppola, SHU’s senior vice president of administration and planning, said, “students who live on campus are more likely to interact with faculty and staff, get involved with cultural activities and clubs and form lifelong friendships. The halls also are places where students continue the conversations from the classroom”.
